An honest person is a trustworthy individual who does not lie, cheat, or steal but instead displays traits of sincerity, loyalty, and fairness. Honesty is especially evident in children who are not yet corrupted by training or influence, although some adults also have this trait. Children tend to tell the truth even if it hurts. Parents can train a child to be honest just as they can influence him or her to be dishonest. Experts say that harsh parenting styles result in children who are dishonest because they fear being punished, but good parenting styles result in honest children because they are not afraid of the truth.
