Clinginess

Clinginess is a term used to describe people who want to be around others so much that it is distracting. The disorder is especially rampant in children, particularly toward their parents. For instance, if a child won’t leave the mother’s side and is always holding on to any part of her, such as her dress or her hand, then the child is considered clingy. Clinginess can be caused by poor parenting styles that render children incapable of being alone or with their peers. The most common reason for clinginess is a feeling of insecurity that is usually unexplained or even unfounded. Experts advise parents to allow their children to explore things on their own in order to help them develop a sense of self-confidence and lack of fear. This will enable children to face every situation boldly whether they are with or without their parents.
