When two adults come together and decide to work together to take the responsibility of raising a child, it is called co-parenting. These adults share in the responsibilities and try to fulfill the child’s physical and emotional needs. Co-parenting may be difficult in the sense that different individuals have different parenting styles and this may affect the child’s physical and emotional growth. To effectively co-parent, one needs well-defined rules and procedures without confusing the child through radically different instructions and expectations. Children’s needs and growth should be put first before the two adults’ respective needs and egos. This section will attempt to inform the caregivers about the effects of co-parenting on the child and its successful execution.
