Nursery

A nursery is a place where children of preterm births are kept until their health sufficiently improves. A proper nursery is usually enclosed and has systems that regulate the temperature to match the environment in the mother’s womb. Children with low birth weight or fragile health are typically placed in nurseries. The length of time a child spends in a nursery can vary from a few hours to a few weeks, depending on the health of the baby. A nursery can be accessed by the mother for feeding and cleaning the baby. The main goal of a nursery is to give babies time to fully develop so they can survive in an outside climate. To a large extent, nurseries help prevent cases of sudden infant death because they keep the baby in a womblike environment.
