Sweet potato has natural sweet sugars and essential nutrients that are necessary for the proper growth and development of a child. It is a type of carbohydrate and starch, and it contains plenty of fiber, so a child who eats sweet potato feels full faster and will have better digestion. Caregivers should strive to feed children sweet potato as opposed to processed carbohydrates and starch like bread and other wheat products. Sweet potato prevents indigestion and constipation and reduces the risk of malnutrition. It will prevent diabetes and hypertension as well. After weaning, the mother can incorporate a little bit of mashed sweet potato into her child’s meals so that the the child can enjoy the benefits of sweet potato from a young age.
