Depression

Depression is a mental disorder that arises from an inability to adjust to or cope with certain situations, such as the loss of a loved one or failure to achieve a goal. The condition affects a person’s general mood and feelings, causing stress and the inability to think properly. Depression also could be a side effect of some medical treatments and drug abuse. Traumas like bullying, rape, childbirth, bereavement, or abuses of any sort can also cause depression. Symptoms of depression include moodiness, sadness, withdrawal, loss of interest, and reduced concentration. Depression also makes a person feel irritable, miserable, guilty, and frustrated most of the time. Some depressed people rely on sedatives or alcohol to feel better. Others have contemplated or even committed suicide. Depression can cause miscarriages and preterm births in pregnant women. If it arises from childbirth, depression can make it more difficult for women to get pregnant again, or mothers may struggle to feel any maternal connection with their child. The good news is that the condition is treatable. There are many cures for depression, ranging from clinical cures to therapeutic cures.
