The Wong family exhibits a parenting style that nurtures and focuses on the full potential of the child. They demonstrate effective parenting skills that other parents can learn from and emulate as well. In addition to advocating for the child’s growth and achievement, the Wong family mainly focuses on the positive effects of the child-rearing process, as supported by this study.

Characteristics of the Wong Family Parenting Style – Authoritative

A parenting style is a general outline of strategies backed by psychology that guide parents through the child-rearing process and enable the child to attain his or her full potential as an adult. The Wong family’s parenting style exhibits the following features:

  1. Good communication. The parent and child should practice good communication skills so that both understand each other. Providing for the child’s needs is easier when the parent understands the child. Also, this enables the parent to address both the good and bad sides of the child’s needs so that the child can make informed decisions.
  2. Emotional support. When children are given emotional support and attention, the result is lifelong emotional stability. Children are able to cope with personal and social issues. Emotionally stable children also get along well with peers and are able to sustain relationships.
  3. Discipline. According to the Wong family parenting style, discipline is a necessary measure in parenting. However, discipline should be used rarely and only when necessary. Excessive punishment results in a withdrawn child, poor academic performance, and poor social skills.
  4. Positive reinforcement Shaping behavior should be based on positive reinforcement according to a study on the Wong family parenting style. When a child behaves well, rewarding him or her will encourage repetition of the same behavior. This enforces the development of good behavior and inhibits undesirable behavior.
  5. Parental guidance and counseling. In the Wong family, the parents are the first teachers of their children. In addition to providing basic physical and emotional support, the parents are examples from whom the children learn. The parents’ behavior thus guides and influences the behavior of their children.
  6. Availability. Parents always need to be available for their children, whether it’s providing for their basic physical needs, participating in the children’s playtime, or being present at all the children’s extracurricular activities. Being available for their children will enable parents to guide their children effectively. At the same time, it will protect children from physical and emotional harm.

Based on the results of this research, the Wong family’s parenting style is worth emulating. The children perform well both socially and academically. They are also emotionally stable and mature.

Furthermore, the children are responsible and have a high chance of a prosperous future. In short, the children attain their full social and intellectual potential by adulthood.
